The LNG Terminal of Fluxys

Fluxys is an independent operator of natural gas transmission infrastructure in Belgium.
Zeebrugge LNG Terminal is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal in the Belgian port of Zeebrugge. It has a capacity of 9 billion cubic metres per year. It has a capacity of 9 billion cubic metres per year and is the liquefied natural gas supply centre for north-western Europe.

The challenge

The port of Bruges-Zeebrugge is located on the North Sea coast in Belgium. The Fluxys LNG terminal is therefore located in an extremely corrosive environment. The steel of the doors is exposed to high stresses from seawater and salty air. Their slow and progressive action on the metal causes corrosion. In addition, all doors must meet fire, burglary and panic requirements.

The Heinen Solution

Heinen provides multi-performance doors in galvanised steel or stainless steel. Since 2021, Heinen has opted for a superior galvanised steel quality, ArcelorMittal’s Magnelis® ZM 250 . The coating thickness is 20 μm/surface for 250g/m². The cover sheets and frame of Heinen doors are coated on both sides with an alloy (zinc 93.5% – aluminium 3.5% – magnesium 3%), which offers better corrosion resistance than conventional, hot-dip galvanised steel.
