Standard EN 1191
Standard EN 1191 is the reference for two criteria: “durability of the automatic closing mechanism and frequency of use”.
During tests, the door has to close from 90° to 0° in 3 to 5 seconds. The number of opening/closing cycles defined by the standard is the reference used to determine the class of the door. After the test, the door must still be functional and the plays and actuating forces are measured to check that the standards defined are still met.
The durability of the automatic closing mechanism is symbolised by the letter C. This test measures the durability of the door and its fittings (door closer, lock, hinge). The technicians are not permitted to carry out any maintenance during the test.
For the frequency of use of the door, symbolised by the letter f, the same method is used except that maintenance can be carried out on the hardware, following a maintenance plan.
